“The Role of Multinational Corporations (MNCs) in Regional Innovation Ecosystem”

The first SERN thematic activity “The Role of Multinational Corporations (MNCs) in Regional Innovation Ecosystem” was led by IKE2020 (Hungary), on the 8th of March 2018. Multinational Corporations play a unique role in the entrepreneurship ecosystem by investing in local markets. In many countries, they are do not only buy new technologies, but also host new firms through incubator programs. They can also invest on a bigger scale in technology startups related to their line of business. That is why startups can benefit from working with a larger and more productive firm which hugely invest in research and development (R&D) and innovation. Simultaneously, MNCs can also invest in local startups. The webinar provided an overview of the developing relations between multinational corporates and local Hungarian innovation ecosystem.

“How to become a global innovation hub? Paris Region’s support to startups and the innovation ecosystem.”

On the 6th of December 2018, the Île-de-France region and SERN held a webinar on “How to become a global innovation hub? Paris Region’s support to startups and the innovation ecosystem.” Since 2016, the Paris Region has implemented a series of actions in order to become the major innovation hub in Europe. In 2018, the Paris Region is about to achieve this goal with the highest amount of R&D expenditure and the largest pool of R&D workers, as well as a very performing startup ecosystem. In that same year , it was awarded the European Entrepreneurial Region (EER) Label by the European Committee of the Regions for is ambitious entrepreneurial policy. This webinar presented the regional policy in favor of startups (financial tools, access to public markets, incubators), with a focus on Wilco, a startup accelerator supported by the Paris Region.
