Objectives
The objective of the project is to solve identified regional problems preventing the systematic development and to address topics, which are pre-listed and for which the solutions are sought.
The project implementation is based on the regional innovation incubator for the Śląskie Voivodship. The incubator delivers the knowledge, experience, and organisational support to developers of 40 innovative ideas as a direct response to the problems in the Silesian Voivodship. Four best ideas received funding for the nation-wide implementation.
Boosting the innovation ecosystem in the Silesia region through the training, advisory, coaching, networking.
Who
The project „Śląska Przestrzeń Innowacji” is implemented by a partnership of two entities: the Foundation “The Cooperation Fund” in Warsaw and the Association “The Centre for Social Initiative Development” (CRID) in Rybnik. The Foundation is the direct provider of grants for the innovators. The entities are NGOs.
Geography
The area covered by the project is Śląskie Voivodship.
Eligible Projects / Expenses
Only the projects solving or addressing the following topics are supported:
- social revitalisation of cities
- depopulation
- the development of “white jobs” (care and healthcare) and “green jobs”
- low indicator of women employment
- low indicator of employment in the age group 50+
- leveling the social impact of the energy poverty
The scheme supports the research, prototyping and testing and process of the idea development – not implementation.
4 best proposals from the programme can receive the funds for the implementation.
The list of eligible expenses is agreed in the grant contract. The following activities can be covered:
- research
- prototyping
- testing
- optionally: second prototype and testing
- excluded costs: promotion, the project coordination and evaluation, financial reporting and assessment.
The grantee is obliged to follow the plan as by the grant contract according to the pre-egreed schedule. Activites beyond the scope of the agreed plan are not funded. The grant is secured by the bill of exchange signed by the grantee.
Support
The project is based in the project design method. The support includes:
- the Grantee can be an individual or group of individuals, a legal person or an organisation
- 10 404 EUR for the development of an idea or innovation; a grantee can apply more than one idea but cannot aquire more than 23 000,00 EUR of the support funding
- the innovation mentor for the entire process of incubation
- a possibility of coaching in the scope of motivation, burn-out or team conflict solving
- the organisational and substantive support for organising tests and research
- the possibility to use the office infrastructure in the incubator in Rybnik
- in the case of a declared need: funding for the chidren care, elderly care or another dependant; the support of the sign language interpretuer or similar
- mandatory training
- the possibility of an individual incubation path.
The research, prototyping and testing are mandatory as is the participation in the training sessions.
Total grants: 9 243 734,19 EUR
Procedure
Collecting the innovation requests
Any public entity, company, entrepreneur or NGO from Silesia can apply with the request for an innovation in the field of the short-listed areas.
- The entities gain:
- The innovation service assessed by experts and tested in the real environment by target recpients
- The documentation, instructions, test reports
- eport on the users’ motivation and needs
- Networking and promotion opportunites in the programme
- The service is free.
- There is no guarantee to find an innovative solution.
- There is no obligation to implement the developed solution.
- Entities are obliged to cooperate with innovators, share the information, deliver a support and to participate in Demo Days. They should also designate their representative for incubation.
The incubation – 9-12 months
The incubator announces a call and a list of topics.
13 to 15 applicants per round are selected by the assessement of the application and by a presentation to the expert panel, based on criteria:
- innovativeness and originality
- the adequacy
- the comprehension of target groups and the entity
- feasibility and replicability
- scale
- usefulness
- compliance with horizontal policies

Status / Results
- 3 calls for ideas have been carried on – the last one in progress.
- 13 to 15 innovative ideas per round are chosen for the incubation; 40 ideas incubated.
- 4 best ideas developed during the programme receive the funding for the nation-wide imple mentation.

Remarks
The i nnovators are supported based on the service methotodology. The platform matches the entities ordering the innovations with innovators delivering the financial and substantive support and the limited funding for the care of another dependant.
The i mplementation is not supported except 4 best ideas.
