Youth

There has been a significant worldwide mobilization of youth in the battle against climate change, as seen by recent citizen movements calling for climate action. Since young people are a fundamental instrument and will be affected by the issue in the future, they want to have a voice in the policy measures taken now. At SERN, we believe that young people can serve as catalysts for change because they are deeply concerned about preventing global warming and preserving biodiversity.

SERN’s involvement
The EUTeens4Green project was created as a response to the needs of the current situation. It gives young people the opportunity to take ownership and become agents of change while proposing actions to help build a green recovery in their region and hence contribute to the good governance of the Cohesion policy.
EUTeens4Green is a call to action for youth participation in the sustainable and green transition in the Just Transition Mechanism geographical scope. It consists of allocating grants to teens to contribute to advancing the green transition in their regions through projects run by people aged 15-24.
In response to the urgent calls for climate action, the EU created the European Green Deal in 2019 as a plan to address climate change and make European civilization sustainable. The main goal of this initiative is to transform the EU into a modern, resource-efficient and competitive economy by 2050.
“The Just Transition Mechanism (JTM) is a key tool to ensure that the transition towards a climate-neutral economy happens in a fair way, leaving no one behind. It provides targeted support to help mobilise around €55 billion over the period 2021-2027 in the most affected regions, to alleviate the socio-economic impact of the transition.” says the European Commission.
